Tom Goes to the Mayor: What?
I don't get it.
Is this funny? I wouldn't describe it as funny per se. Well, that's not fair. I suppose it could be funny if your sense of humour tends toward crass and tasteless.
I just watched the end of an episode which features a rather unpleasantly obese woman having simulated sex with her hairy duckweed husband (the namesake of the series).
Upon paging through various message boards featuring the opinions of a number of discriminating critics, I was disconcerted to find the number of people commenting that the show is "fucking hilarious," as teenagers are wont to do. Particularly perplexing was the fact that commentators tended to criticize the animation while applauding the humour, which only proves that the show's fanbase consists of pure, uncut morons. I'd say the animation is the only thing that is remotely interesting about this show. The creators take photographs of real actors, make it blue and white, and then use stop-motion techniques to animate the modified photos against fully-rendered scenes. Quite innovative.
But not enough to compensate.
